Department of Education vindicates the cuts in EOI after criticism for the reduction of classes in Dénia and Xàbia

The Department of Education issued a statement yesterday in which it responds to the criticism received for the reduction of classes in EOI centers, including those in Dénia and Xàbia, alluding to the fact that a total of 1.281 groups of the 2.842 offered in the official language schools of the Valencian Community do not comply with the minimum ratios established in Order 87/2013, that is, 45%.

«The Valencian Community is the autonomy with the most official language school centers in Spain. Specifically, it has 81 centers to serve a population of 5 million, while the Community of Madrid has 35 centers for 7 million inhabitants; In Andalusia there are 52 centers to serve 8,5 million inhabitants and Catalonia has 56 centers for a population of 8 million," the institution has declared.

According to the analyzes carried out by the Conselleria, it has been detected that only 61% of the places offered are covered and, of those enrolled students, 32% abandon their studies. "In total, there are 221 groups with 5 or fewer students enrolled, so it is observed that it is necessary to adjust the supply to the demand and the actual enrollment data," said Jorge Cabo, general director of Teaching Centers.

«The EOIs of the Valencian Community will continue to offer the same languages as this course. We have analyzed group by group and we have considered it necessary to make this adjustment to be efficient with public resources," added Jorge Cabo.
