Baleària exceeds five million passengers in 2023 through a sustainable business model

In one year marked by its 25th anniversary, Baleària has achieved historic achievements that reflect the solidity and strength of its business model. With a billing of 652 millones de euros, an impressive increase of 15% compared to the previous year, and an EBITDA of 117 million euros, Baleària has demonstrated his ability to adapt to the challenges of the maritime market and maintain positive economic performance.

The company, committed to sustainability, has invested significantly in its sustainable fleet and in the digitalization of its operations. With an investment of 113 million euros in these areas, BaBaleària has consolidated its position as a pioneer in sustainable mobility in the maritime sector.

Among the notable milestones of 2023 is the incorporation of two electric propulsion vessels and the launch of the innovative fast ferry Margaret Salas. These movements have led to Baleària to be the first Spanish shipping company to obtain the prestigious Green Marine Europe label, reaffirming its commitment to eco-efficiency and clean energy.

Baleària's environmental focus is also reflected in the 8% decrease in the ratio of tons of CO2 emitted per mile, thanks to the increase in the use of natural gas and other eco-efficient measures. With a fleet of 30 vessels owned and a dozen chartered, Baleària operates on 25 routes distributed in six countries, with 75% of its turnover coming from national routes and the remaining 25% from international connections.

In 2023 Baleària has transported 5,2 million passengers, 1,4 million vehicles and 7,4 million linear meters of cargo during fiscal year 2023, surpassing its own historical records.

El president of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, noted that despite the extraordinary costs associated with the company's expansion, the sharp increase in financial expenses and the opening of new routes, The result for the year was 40 million euros, a positive figure.

In terms of employment, the shipping company experienced growth by reaching 2.500 workers in high season, 10% more than in the previous fiscal year. Job stability stands out with 94% of direct employees in Spain being permanent.

Baleària has also maintained a strong commitment to society, with a social cash flow of 730 million euros. 77% of suppliers are local, and the Baleària Foundation has carried out 280 actions in social, environmental, sports and cultural fields, highlighting the 39 exhibitions by more than 300 artists which attracted more than 33.000 visitors.

Looking to the future, Baleària is committed to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050, facing the challenges and European regulations that promote the reduction of the carbon footprint in maritime transport.
