A route through the dianenses corners that marked the city during the Civil War

November 12 from 2018 - 13: 09

The Municipal Historic Archive of Dénia organized an urban route on Sunday for spaces of war and repression led by the historian Jaume Sau.

Departing from the town hall square, emblematic places related to the historic period were visited: the Agustinas convent, which suffered a fire at the beginning of 1936, thanks to the intervention of the citizens, the image of the Holy Blood was saved; the House of the Marquesa Valero de Palma, expropriated by the CNT, which was installed in the building; the castle tunnel, shelter for aerial bombardment; the warehouses on Calle de la Mar, the old Sahuquillo factory, converted into a weapons factory and the Maristas school, where dungeons were set up in the basement for the victims of the reprisals.

The guided tour is part of the program of cultural activities «Fem memòria. Dénia, guerra i repressió» with which the City of Dénia commemorates the 80 anniversary of the Spanish Civil War.

The next appointment will be the conference on the defenses of war on the coast of the Marina Alta that the professor of the University of Alicante Andrés Martínez Medina will give on Thursday, November 15, at 20 hours, at the Casa de Cultura.
