It was the year 1971 when an Englishman named Simpson decided to launch a different project: rescue the old wooden cars from the Dénia-Carcaixent railway to make a tourist route along the Alicante coastline linking Denia and Benidorm: lemon Express. It was the first tourist train in the country.

Since then, and with the help of public lemon Express Was a reality that helped to make known some of the populations of the High and Low Marinas to the tourists. In its first years of lemon Express Dénia and Benidorm, and it was an authentic train excursion, which included the travelers the food in the price of the ticket.

In the year 2005, and with the intention of repairing its wheels after some mishaps, its service was paralyzed and since then the lemon Express Lies forgotten in the garages of El Campello (Alicante), abandoned, full of painted and with broken glass and seats.

For a few years, a Catalan company has talks with FGV, according to the newspaper El Mundo in its edition Comunitat Valenciana this weekend, to bring to life this missing train. So much so that the company has proposed to the Generalitat Valenciana and FGV get the management of this train, by direct award or bidding for the concession.

To reactivate this tourist service, the Barcelona company Gestión Ferroviaria proposes to restore the wagons and start them again, paying the corresponding fees, so that the train will once again cover the Dénia-Benidorm route without obstructing the trajectories of the TRAM line 9 when It will resume.

From the company they defend that it is totally feasible the new start of this train, that would allow to recover a historical train for the north of the province of Alicante. Since the Generalitat, for their part, have not shown any interest in this project.
