Traps with pheromones to kill the processionary in Dénia

February 15 from 2019 - 08: 23

The little rain that has fallen in Dénia in recent months has weakened the pines of the municipality, turning them into a focus for the caterpillars that form the processionary, very dangerous for children and deadly for dogs. It is, therefore, a public health problem that must be combated.

As every year, the Department of Parks and Gardens of the City of Dénia, has begun the treatment to eliminate them, which consists of the installation of traps in the pines located in public spaces such as schools, parks, or the Castle.

To end the processionary, traps with pheromones are installed in the pines. This way, the caterpillar gets to the trap and gets stuck in it before reaching the ground. In addition, in parallel, the pockets that are formed in the tree and that are in danger of breaking and falling to the ground are also removed.

The Councilor for the Environment in the City Council, Josep Crespo, explained that every year the same system is used to combat this plague.
