28 December 2013 - 00: 02

Six specimens of loggerhead turtle returned to the sea yesterday, after spending several months in the Oceanogràfic recovering from different wounds. These are turtles accidentally captured by fishing boats or wounds from swallowing plastic that have been rehabilitated thanks to the ARCA project of the sea in which Dénia collaborates.

The beach of the Albaranas was the chosen stage for this release, to where hundreds of people moved, among which there were many children who took advantage of the Christmas holidays to see live the return to the sea of these six copies.

It is the sixth year in which this release of Christmas tortoises takes place every year in different parts of the Region. This year, after Dénia joined the turtle recovery project, the Dianense beach has been chosen to return them to the sea.

In 2013 have been 24 turtles recovered thanks to this program, all of them already at sea. Since the program began, in 1995, 450 turtle specimens have been rescued with an 90% recovery.
