Project for the recovery of endangered species in the Montgó

January 11 from 2012 - 00: 02

Montgó Natural Park is the venue for the Silene de Ifach and maritime arboreal lucerneTwo species endangered in Valencia, recover in an orchard of quality seeds that favor regeneration.

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and the Environment has chosen the Montgó because it is one of the richest places in Western Europe, «con más de 900 especies diferentes de plantas, muchas de ellas endémicas, es decir, sólo pueden encontrarse en el norte de la provincia de Alicante y sur de Valencia» according to Alfredo González, general director of Natural Environment.

Once technicians Park and the Center for Forest Research and Experimentation of the Generalitat (CIEF) collect seeds of wild populations of the two species to select the highest quality and plant them in a nursery of the park. Then those seeds to strategic areas, such as cut or cliffs, and places where plants have disappeared are sent.
