Opinion Pepa Font: «We work for Dénia»

16 September 2015 - 11: 59

By assuming the powers of Tourism and Culture in 2011, it was clear from Center Unificat, to expand the supply of sun and beach was paramount, more if possible, with the amount of cultural and natural heritage that we have. So the Castell de Dénia must be a reference and its adequacy was a matter of priority. Now it seems that work is beginning to bear fruit.

A few days after being appointed Councilor for Culture, I commissioned the Department of Archeology and Heritage to draft a Master Plan that would cover the needs of the Castell de Dénia. The report «Castell de Dénia. Restoration Program 2011-2015", was completed on September 18, 2011, becoming the reference document for possible actions in the Castell de Dénia. This report highlighted the need to carry out very specific specific actions, mainly due to the municipal economic situation, but prioritizing the improvement of the state of the fortress, in order to improve its benefits in the face of the large flow of visitors.

Therefore, he proposed to prioritize on two specific points, the restoration of L'Escala del Palau and rehabilitation of the Torre del Mig, door of the Alcazaba in Daniya, requesting the support of the General Directorate of Artistic Heritage of the Generalitat Valenciana , requesting the drafting of both projects.

The inclusion within the general state budget for the restoration of 2016 L'Escala del Palau, accompanied by the enhancement of Palau Vell the Duc de Lerma, is a sign that we were not wrong in choosing the direction in which we should join forces.

But this has not been the only action that has been carried out in the area of the Castell de Dénia; the elimination of pine trees in different areas, the opening of the Reception Center adapting its accessibility, security improvements in deteriorated areas... many of them actions aimed at facilitating larger ones in the not too distant future. The inclusion within the Confidence Plan of the Generalitat Valenciana of the redevelopment of Sant Francesc street, access road to the Castell de Dénia, together with the improvements in lighting, signage and removal of trees, is another of the actions that we hope will soon be able to be carried out.

Because a lot of work still remains to be done in the Castell de Dénia; strengthening the Torre del Mig, the Andalusian garden, digging to locate the Church of the Vila Vella, and all this, we are willing to continue working to value our cultural heritage.
