The eleventh edition of the RiuRau Film Festival has started this weekend. Yes, by a whisker. Although everything was ready to start the festival in La Xara on Friday with the section of Fiction in Valencian/Catalan, as has been done in recent years, it had to be suspended due to weather conditions. The storm forced to cancel the first day.
On Saturday and Sunday, however, the rain forgave. They were the days hosted by Dénia, once again allocating the Torrecremada gardens as the setting for such special events. Since sunset, the Dianense screen was illuminated to show 12 works that compete in the category of Fiction, and four more on Saturday belonging to the social fiction. Likewise, the sessions were used to screen some of the short films that had to be presented on Friday at La Xara but that the storm prevented.
The short films shown during these days were:
Fiction
social fiction
Sunday was perhaps the most special day. It did not start off on the best foot, as problems with the inflatable screen forced the session to be delayed. However, it was possible to solve it and continue with the programming. Of course, the wait was more bearable thanks to the performance of a jazz duo willing to liven up the night.
Apart from the short films exhibited, undisputed protagonists of the festival, the most emotional moment of the night was during the tribute to Maribel Font, Culture technician of the Dénia City Council. With a video they wanted to recognize the technician for her more than three decades dedicated to the culture of the city, something that she thanked from the RRFF stage itself.
Next weekend the RiuRau Film Festival will move to Jesús Pobre for two days where we will see new candidates from the Ficció section, as well as proposals from the Escola de Cinema Riurau. In the same way, it will be time to see the results of the RIURAUFF EXPRESS filming and editing marathon that took place last weekend in the same municipality.
