Mannequins take the street against sexist violence

The Department of Equality and Diversity, in collaboration with the Department of Commerce, the Association of Autonomous Merchants of Dénia (ACADE) and the company Maniquíes DiCapo, has undertaken the action of street # SaldelaViolenciadeG Gender with the aim of “Make visible both the victims of gender violence and the citizenship that manifests itself to show them that they are not alone and that they can leave”, explained the Councilor for Equality and Diversity, Javier Scotto. For this, 100 mannequins have been distributed in streets and squares and in front of municipal public buildings. Specifically, the figures, “Representing women, children and men who go out to denounce, claim and fight against gender violence”, can be seen in Cop Street, La Mar Street, Arxiduc Carles Square and in front of the House of Culture, the Social Center and the Dénia Town Hall building, in the Plaza de la Constitució.

The mannequins are dressed in purple t-shirts that look slogans alluding to the fight against gender violence as "You are not alone", "Call the 016" or "Love does not hurt." Eighty merchants of the Association of Autonomous Merchants (ACADE) have been involved in the campaign, taking care of the 140 screen printed shirts that mannequins wear and that can also be purchased, at the price of 7 euros, at the ImpresionArte store (Patricio Ferrándiz street , 33). The president of the association, Jaime Mezquida, has shown the full support of the entity “To all social initiatives like the one presented today”.

On behalf of Maniquíes DiCapo, Jaime de Casas, has indicated that this Madrid company has already collaborated in other initiatives related to the fight against gender violence, such as a video clip of rapper Arkano, and has said that distance is not a problem for that the company contributes to actions such as the one developed in Dénia, “ya que haremos los kilómetros que haga falta por toda España para hacer llegar este mensaje de lucha contra la violencia de género».

The presentation of this street action has had the participation of a group of students from 3.º of ESO of the IES Sorts de la Mar de Dénia who are participating in the project of an international radio web framed in the Erasmus + KA229 program, together to other European centers in France, Italy and Romania. Students have premiered in their work as radio journalists in this act related to the International Day against gender violence and have had the opportunity to observe how professional journalists who have come to cover the presentation work as part of their learning.
