The first university degrees studied in Torrecremada will start in 2022

The Minister of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society, Carolina Pascual, and the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, have held a working meeting in Dénia today to specify the lines of action and investment in the future university campus of Gastronomic Sciences -Center of International Excellence in Training and Gastronomic Innovation of the Universitat d'Alacant, which will be located at the Torrecremada de Dénia farm. The meeting was also attended by councilmen Melani Ivars and Óscar Mengual, members of the mixed commission in charge of preparing an action protocol, deadlines and financing for the rehabilitation of the Torrecremada farm, which will also include a study of the needs of the units that will make up the campus.

The City Council of Dénia and the Department of Universities will allocate a total of 500.000 euros, 250.000 euros each institution, for the start of the work planned for the end of 2021. With an execution period of about 9 months, it is expected that the works will finish in 2022, so that the degrees of the new campus can begin to be taught in the academic year 2022-2023.

Carolina Pascual thanked the mayor "All the effort made to ensure that Dénia has a university campus, a very important endowment for the city because it implies the recruitment of students and young people, the revitalization of the territory and an improvement for the social and economic fabric of the area".
Regarding the student body forecasts on campus, Minister Pascual explained that it depends on the degrees offered and has pointed out that "The strengths and needs of the environment will have to be assessed in order to provide the campus with differentiating degrees, not only in gastronomy, but also, for example, in the nautical sector". The mixed work commission made up of representatives of the Dénia City Council, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Universitat d'Alacant, will be in charge of studying and determining those future degrees of the denier campus.

For his part, the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, has stressed that this investment by both administrations is the starting point to make one of the great future projects for Dénia a reality.
As for the rehabilitation project, it can be noted that it was drawn up years ago and, during the last legislature, the City Council updated it to current regulations. As explained by the councilor for Territory and Urban Quality, Maria Josep Ripoll, the project includes the creation of four classrooms, "Some with very interesting hydraulic paving and roofs from the time (XNUMXth century)", and spaces for auditorium, kitchen-workshop, offices and library.

The rehabilitation of the Torrecremada house is budgeted at about 2 million euros, which will be financed by the Dénia City Council and the Generalitat Valenciana. The Universitat d'Alacant will assume the equipment of the building and all the teaching infrastructure.
