The Moors and Christians Festivities begin with the delivery of city keys

The 2019 Moors and Christians Festivities are here. Last night the official opening ceremony of this year's program took place, with the traditional raising of flags, handing over of the keys to the city and a festive proclamation, by Miguel Ángel Fullana this year.

The captaincies met in front of the Red Cross at 20:00 to parade to the Glorieta del País Valencià. where they picked up the rest of the Moorish and Christian troops, ending their journey in the Plaza del Consell, where the authorities and neighbors who came to witness the act were waiting.

This year's preacher, Miguel Ángel Fullana, thanked Rafa Cheli for his confidence in choosing him for such an honor. He reviewed his history with the Feast of Dénia, of the people with whom he had crossed since the first chilaba was put in 2011 and of everything he owed to the Moors and Christians of the capital of the Marina Alta, ensuring that we live "in the best place in the world". He highlighted the integrative nature of this party, where nobody is more than anyone and welcomes everyone, both in the ranks and in the city.

In addition, he took the opportunity to ask the City Council to fight to categorize the Moors and Christians of Dénia as a Festival of Tourist Interest, offering to work side by side with the government team to achieve that goal. "It would be a good gift for the 40 anniversary" of the party, which is celebrated next year.

After the proclamation, Vicent Grimalt handed over the keys to the city to the president of the FEMMICC, Rafa Cheli, and this year's captains asked for the flags to be raised, thus beginning the Festivities.
