This morning, the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, together with the councilors of Sports, Raúl García de la Reina, and of Urbanism, Maria Josep Ripoll, have presented the new athletics track where they hope to host competitions up to national levels and which will be able to be used by neighbors and visitors for free.

After years of claiming a proper track, Dianenses can now proudly say they have it. The works have lasted a few months, barely being affected by the confinement, and have involved an investment of 750.000 euros. But, finally, Dénia has the installation that they deserve.

However, at the moment it has not received the homologation to host national competitions, since only 2 days ago those responsible came to check the state of the track. But everything points to the fulfillment of what is necessary, since teams and athletes from the city were very present at the installation, offering their advice to the authorities.

Among its many novelties, the striking blue color of the floor stands out, following the trend of recent years to bet on this aesthetic instead of the classic red. In addition, the entrances have been designed with athletes with reduced mobility in mind, making them fully accessible for wheelchairs.

The use of this facility, which everything indicates that it will open in September, will be free by filling out a reservation through a mobile application. This is the one that will allow you to enter automatically by activating the entrance rotary lathes.

With this new facility, the council also seeks to promote sports tourism. A new way to achieve the desired seasonal adjustment.

A pavilion with walls in November

It has been almost a year since the sports hall was attacked by DANA, leaving still visible scars. By not having a wall, and with the floor to repair since then, the teams that used it had to move their training sessions and competitions to fields assigned by neighboring municipalities, such as Beniarbeig, or to gather in the Joan Fuster pavilion.

However, next week the repair works that have been delayed due to conflicts regarding insurance collection finally begin. These will cost 200.000 euros, 30.000 less than estimated by the City Council, and is scheduled to end in 3 months.
