La Baix la Mar del PSPV: a neighborhood for tourists, but also for living

May 05 from 2023 - 15: 15

Undoubtedly, the Baix la Mar neighborhood is the one with the greatest potential from the perspective of the tourist Dénia, which in summer receives thousands of visitors eager to enjoy the good weather, the sea and the great gastronomy of the UNESCO Creative City. A neighborhood that was born to welcome the 'gente de mar' and provide service to an expanding fishing and commercial port, and which is currently one of the main tourist attractions in the city.

The action of the socialist government of Dénia in this area of the city during the last eight years has sought, according to the PSPV itself, to enhance that attraction with various transformations that "have improved the urban fabric of this neighborhood."

Projects such as the redevelopment of Sandunga and Fontanella streets and Sant Josep and Fontanella squares are the result of this philosophy, which have transformed these places with paving, which recovers an aesthetic more typical of a historic center, and pedestrianization, to gain new spaces to enjoy a walk and shops and restaurants.

And so is the paving of Hort, Escullera, Marines and Alberto streets. Sentí, which, moreover, is a project demanded by the citizens themselves through Participatory Budgets. "An action that meets the needs of those who live and work year-round in the neighborhood, where the new door-to-door selective collection system for urban waste has also recently been implemented."

The emblematic Paseo del Raset has benefited from the lighting improvement project carried out by Puertos at the request of the town hall, which has provided 25 double LED light points (sidewalk and road) on the sidewalk on the left (Les Marines direction) and projectors to increase visibility at pedestrian crossings.

And for this influx of visitors that the neighborhood absorbs in the summer months, two large free public parking areas have been set up on Miguel Hernández and Furs avenues.

Among the future forecasts for the Baix la Mar neighborhood, the Dénia Socialists program wants to deepen the idea that all the city's neighborhoods are neighborhoods to live in, not just to spend the summer, and deserve services and opportunities that energize all year. For this reason and because of its maritime origin and location, the Baix la Mar neighborhood will host the new "Gent de Mar" Integrated Vocational Training Center, already included in the Generalitat's Pla Edificant with a budget of 8 million.

In its facilities, in the port of Dénia, in front of the Paseo del Raset, ten training cycles of nautical, fishing, tourism and the agri-food industry will be taught, basic sectors in the Dianense economy that thanks to this new educational center will have professionals trained on foot from Port.

Also in the Baix la Mar-Darrere neighborhood, the new National Police station will be built, on land ceded by the council to the Ministry of the Interior in Miguel Hernández, whose works will begin in 2023.

At the cultural and heritage level, the neighborhood will soon recover the old access to the Castell by the Torre del Galliner, thanks to the restoration works on the Verger Baix already underway with funding from the central government. And we keep in mind the project to convert a building built in 1893 into a former 'slaughterhouse', into a space for cultural and museum use related to democratic memory.

«New educational, cultural and service endowments that will make Baix la Mar a more modern and accessible neighbourhood».
