This Tuesday they intercepted a diver in Dénia in the Cap de Sant Antoni nature reserve carrying out furtive fishing. A swimmer notified the Trampolí beach lifeguard post and the latter, in turn, notified the coastguard, warning that a person had entered the water with a spearfishing gun.
Once at the scene, the underwater fisherman is intercepted, who came out of the water with a grouper, an imperial bream, two breams and the equipment used for his capture. The person alleged that he was unaware that he was in a Reserve of Fishing Interest.
The Dénia Coast Guard service proceeded to draw up the corresponding record and confiscate the fishing equipment and the catches. The sanctioning file will be processed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition. The Dénia Coast Guard personnel delivered the catches to the soup kitchen of the “Extend your Hand” association in Dénia.
The Coast Guard service has wanted to highlight that, despite incidents such as the one that occurred yesterday, poaching has experienced a decrease compared to other years and it is partly thanks to the collaboration and involvement of neighbors and tourists, "who know , they love and are involved in the preservation of this marine space filled with more and more species whose proliferation is an unequivocal sign of the effect that the reserve has.
Likewise, they point out that precisely at the end of August, when tourist pressure decreases, the possibility of finding poaching attempts increases, so the Coast Guard increases control at night.
