Vicent Grimalt, mayor of Dénia, accompanied by José Ramiro, president of the Health Council of the department of Dénia, and Javier Scotto, health councilor of the Dénia City Council, have met this morning with the Minister of Health, Ana Barceló, to transfer the concern about the management being carried out by the concessionaire of the Sanidad a la Marina in the Department of Health of Dénia, in terms of citizen care, especially in the areas of primary health and mental health, and the working conditions of professionals.

At the meeting, held at Grimalt's request, the delegation informed Minister Barceló that the concessionaire currently excuses itself for not finding professionals, "an inadmissible fact that cannot be excused as it is responsible for guaranteeing a decent service by contract". They have also insisted that the concessionaire is the one that has to find a solution "and improve working conditions to get professionals and not leave them."

For the mayor of Dénia "it is clear that the private management model for a public service such as health, where the company commercializes the health of the residents of the region, is a failed model, especially in terms of final care of the users".

"This current situation of discomfort with the concessionaire is more than evident by most sectors of the region and is caused by its mismanagement, not now, but years ago", highlighted the president of the Consell de Salud, Joseph Ramiro.

For its part, the Minister of Health has confirmed that the roadmap is to finalize the contract with the concessionaire in February 2024. The process will begin at the beginning of 2023 as stipulated in the contract, "since without a doubt it is necessary to direct management of the department.

Likewise, the Ministry is working to monitor and ensure that "the management of health in the region is adequate and that the neighbors suffer as little as possible from the management of the privatization of health."
