Six years of the great snowfall in Dénia

January 18 from 2023 - 08: 38

Today marks six years since the snow was last seen in the streets of Dénia. It was the morning of January 18, 2017 when the neighbors opened their blinds and woke up, to their surprise, to a white blanket that covered the entire landscape. It didn't matter where you were (mountain, urban area or the beach), the snow visited every Dianense home that day.

It was a Tuesday, in the heat of the cold, when the unexpected came true and, let's not fool ourselves, the dream of many Dénia neighbors. Since 1983 the snow had not set in the city. That is many generations without being able to enjoy that winter stamp in their home.

The snowy street

As expected, most neighbors took to the streets to enjoy such a fantastic phenomenon. Especially the children who lived during that day a day without school for the suspension of classes. From the Castle to the beach, many areas of Dénia became, during that morning, makeshift snowball battles. In Dénia! Who was going to say it.

And it is that it snowed at sea level, so it was possible to experience the curious landscape of the white beaches visited by multitudes of snowmen. It was an image reserved for the lucky people who live in the coldest areas, but who, like late Christmas gift, for a few hours we could enjoy.

The snowy Panseta

Hours, of course. Throughout the morning the sun was taking over the streets and throwing the snow, but the images have immortalized that moment forever. Ball battles at Marqués de Campo, snowmen at Punta del Raset beach, and even a small, optimistic skier at the Castle.
