29 July 2019 - 13: 40

Alicante Wines Protected Designation of Origin were able to present themselves to the entire society and dianenses tourists in the event that on Friday afternoon gathered in the Plaza del Consell about 700 people.

During the day, about twenty wineries presented their wines, with muscat and monastrell as protagonists. They were the wineries of the Marina Alta: Joan de la Casa, Les Freses, Luis and Aida, Riko and Xaló and for the rest of the regions: Bocopa, Vinessens, Las Virtudes, Santa Catalina del Mañán, Vinos de Algueña, Volver, Sierra Salinas , Monovar Wineries, Heretat de Cesilia, Mendoza, Francisco Gómez, Finca Collado.

The event was inaugurated by the President of the Regulatory Council, Antonio M. Navarro, who was accompanied by the Director General of Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, David Torres, Mayor Dénia, Vicent Grimalt as well as different members of the local corporation of the Agriculture or Youth areas, the director of Gasterra, Josep Bernabeu, the CdT of Dénia, Josep Vidal or the manager of the Hospitality Association of the Marina Alta, Reme Cerdá as well as representatives of Cedma, the association of Sommeliers, etc. All agreed to point out the importance of the sector as well as the necessary unity and visibility of this sector that is so important in local gastronomy and culture.

The Marina Alta is a region protected by the PDO Alicante for the production of wines. Especially, Muscat vines of Alexandria are grown and, as inks, preferably turned. It is characterized by a great diversity of soils, valleys and mountains of significant height. The crop is developed in the center of Valles such as the Pop River or on terraces with different altitudes. The influx of the breezes is very important as it is a region surrounded by the sea when the Cabo de San Antonio is formed. The cultivation of the vineyard is one of its most important cultural heritages, since wineries have been established for more than 2600 years ago and the trade of wines and oils has been registered precisely from the port of Dénia, capital of this region of Alicante.
