Prosecutors investigate an alleged crime of influence peddling in the Mediterranean Bar descatalogación

January 14 from 2015 - 17: 21

The special commission investigating the demolition of the building in the Old Bar Mediterranean has agreed to send the matter to prosecutors asking that an investigation be opened for alleged malfeasance, bribery, influence peddling and damage to cultural heritage allegedly arising from the discontinuation of 248 buildings in the year 2012.

As reported by the spokesman for the government team, Vicente Chelet, after having exhausted the administrative procedures when it was shown that the building was not listed at the time of the demolition, the investigation will now focus on finding out why 248 buildings were left out of the catalog approved by the Municipal Corporation in the plenary session of December 2012.

Although it is not ruled out that the discontinuation was due to a transcription error, since the Mediterranean Bar is located on Marqués de Campo 68 street and the adjacent building is listed as protected, the number 66, which in principle does not have any outstanding cultural element, the popular mayor explained that the matter "its not that easy".

And that Chelet has been reported that there are suspicions that one of the studio technicians who carried out the demolition project, was allegedly aware of this vulnerability by participating as an advisor to a municipal political group in various meetings with the team editor, author of the catalog of 2012.

In addition to the special commission to investigate the case of the demolition of the Mediterranean Bar, another commission was held at City Hall, this time aimed at studying the operation of the Department of Works and Services.

As explained Chelet, since taking these competences in October last year, "I found licenses granted without guarantees, guarantees that were not simply returned and lack of follow-up of the files".

The mayor of Planning said "We have been watching the situation and in recent months I have been sending detailed reports to the Mayor's Office, so from now on we are going to open the appropriate files to clarify responsibilities for a matter that has been going on for a long time.".

In both committees participated the mayor, the town clerk, councilors Javier Ygarza, Vicente Chelet, María Martínez, Josep Crespo, Pepa Font, Francisco Signes, Cristina Morera, Pep Marí, Vicent Grimalt, Maria Mut, Isabel Gallego and the municipal architect.
