The future university campus of Dénia that will welcome 800 students very soon

The Minister of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society, Josefina Bueno, together with the rector of the University of Alicante, Amparo Navarro, the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, and other members of the Corporation, have visited the works of the future campus of the University of Alicante in Dénia, and has declared that "the rehabilitation works of the Torrecremada building are advancing at a very good pace, so we are going to meet the established deadlines, which provide that this first phase of execution of works ends between the months of October-November of this year. Once the facilities are equipped, the Casa de Torrecremada will be able to be used in the year 2024.

«This new campus of Gastronomic Sciences will be a boost for research and transfer in the agri-food sector of the Community of Hospitality that will position Dénia as a benchmark for Mediterranean gastronomy, in addition to training highly prepared professionals to compete in the labor market", pointed out the minister.

The reform of the Torrecremada building, original from the 2,5th century, municipal property and included in the municipality's Catalog of Protected Assets and Spaces, has a cost of 50 million euros, 200.000% of which are financed by the Generalitat Valenciana and the City Council. from Denia. In addition, we must add a contribution of XNUMX euros from Next Generation EU Funds that the city council has obtained to allocate them to the necessary equipment for its implementation.

Once the works are finished, the Casa de Torrecremada will become the headquarters of the UA-Dénia university campus and rectory building, equipped with classrooms, workshops, offices, cafeteria and multifunctional room for conferences and exhibitions. The project is complemented by the construction of a building in the Pedrera area, on land located in front of the IES Historian Chabás, where the UA Degree in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts will be taught and which will be the core of subsequent campus developments. academic. The Councilor for Territory, Maria Josep Ripoll, has affirmed that the Dénia Town Hall has obtained in the call "Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination-National Enogastronomy Plan 2022" a subsidy of 1 million euros for the drafting of the this future building.

Ripoll has added that the development of the campus will require a significant volume of dotional land, for which reason the town hall will draw up a special plan in this area of ​​La Pedrera where, in addition to the construction of the building for studies of the Degree in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts of the UA, a new UNED building, a student residence, research centers and other services are located.

This academic offer would be complemented by other postgraduate studies offered by GASTERRA in Torrecremada, estimating that the future campus would accommodate between 600 and 800 students per year.
