Theater director Jose María Morera donates his personal fund to Arxiu Municipal de Dénia

20 June 2012 - 00: 00

Since in 1963 directed his first work, the Valencian Jose María Morera became one of the essential names of Spanish theater. It was the first Spanish director to release the only opera composed by a woman, vinatea Matilde Salvador, with text by Xavier Casp. He received numerous awards, among which are two National Theater Awards, and has held various institutional positions in Valencia.

Today, when he has retired from professional life, and living in the neighboring town of Ondara, Morera has decided to donate his personal background to Arxiu Municipal Denia for conservation and use of scholars.

José María Morera signed with the mayor of Dénia, Ana Kringe, the donation agreement in the company of the secretary of the Consell Valencià de Cultura, Jesús Huguet, personal friend of Morera, who highlighted the human quality of Morera.

During the signing of the agreement, the Councilor for Culture, Pepa Font, read some words that important actors of the Spanish theater scene have wanted to dedicate to Morera. Amparo Baró, Anna Mª Barbany, Fernando Guillén, Gemma Cuervo and Josep María Pou sent their most affectionate messages to José María Morera.

The municipal archivist, Rosa Seser, estimates that it will take a year to classify the documentation received, a total of 61 boxes full of documentation of the works directed by Morera.
