The Public Health Center of Dénia calls on the population between 50 and 69 years to perform the screening test for colon cancer, due to the World Day against Colon Cancer, to be held next March 31 Sunday.

María Gironés, Facultad de la CS Pública de Dénia and responsible for the program, emphasizes awareness, "since it is a very simple and painless test with excellent health results, in terms of prevention". Gironés remembers that "This disease is the second cause of mortality among the adult population, including men and women".

The colon cancer prevention program was implanted in 2005 in the health department of Dénia and it participates more than 50% of the target population.

According to Cristóbal Llorens, nurse of the Public CS of Dénia and also responsible for the screening program, "Every year 36.000 residents of the Marina Alta are invited to undergo the test. The basic health areas that participate most are Pedreguer and Vergel, with figures up to 70%. Below are Teulada -49% -, Calp - 45% - and Dénia -45% -, where there is a need to do more awareness, given the importance of pathology prevention ".

The objective of Public Public Health of Dénia is to improve these indicators to increase survival and quality of life that provides early detection.

During the next month of April, the target population of Pedreguer's basic health area will receive in their homes the information and material necessary to participate.

In case of not receiving the invitation or the material during the months of April or May, those responsible for the program recommend contacting the user of the Colorectal Cancer Prevention Program at the Dénia CSP-96 642 96 09- or request the test in the corresponding health center.
