The City Council studies the future of tourism in Dénia and announces the return of the D*na to the Marineta this year

The city's Tourism Council met this Monday at the town hall to address the degree of execution of the Dénia Tourism Plan for the 2021-2024 period and study the new actions to be undertaken taking into account the vision of positioning Dénia as a destination Mediterranean gastronomy of reference both nationally and internationally, as well as reinforcing its leadership as a sun and beach, experiential and nature destination.

The council was chaired by the mayor and councilor for Tourism, Vicent Grimalt, accompanied by the councilors for Territory, Maria Josep Ripoll, Education and Social Welfare, Melani Ivars, and Commerce, Sandra Gertrudix, and the head of the Department of Tourism, Pepa Cardona, responsible for breaking down the progress in each of the four lines of action into which the plan is divided.

In terms of tourism governance, support has been given to events through collaboration agreements with associations and entities such as Aehtma, the Dénia Marina or the La Sella Golf Club. Likewise, a newsletter communication channel has been put into operation with the tourism business community and citizen participation channels.

Sustainable and smart destination

In the sustainability and accessibility section, a subsidy of 3 million euros has been obtained within the extraordinary program of the Tourism Sustainability Plan presented in 2021. For this year, and still awaiting resolution, aid has been requested in the program extraordinary Tourism Sustainability Plan (Food and Wine Tourism) and in the “Spain Tourism Experiences” Plan.

Within the third axis, the intelligent management of the destination, the Smart City plan has been approved. As for the Smart Tourist Destination master plan, in the process of being drawn up, during 2022 the self-diagnosis will be updated with the new parameters. Next, the implementation of the actions contemplated in the plan will be carried out.

With regard to competitiveness, improvement and reinforcement of the quality of tourist services, training and employment, the SICTED quality system stands out, which today has 99 member companies, of which 67 have obtained the distinction. From Dénia Tourism continues to work on attracting companies, quality training and proposals for improvement. As for the quality of the beaches, the Qualitur, ISO 9001 and 14001 certificates and the blue flags have been revalidated. Work has also been done to improve the quality of monuments and museums, carrying out the rehabilitation and renovation of the museum offer, and the European project PART-HER has been promoted to revalue cultural heritage. Finally, it has collaborated with the Autonomous Secretary of Tourism in the fight against intrusiveness and unfair competition in the sector.

The D*na Festival returns to Marineta Cassiana

The mayor, Vicent Grimalt, highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in achieving these objectives, recalling that this year the D*na festival returns to its original location, on the Paseo de la Marineta Cassiana, and will be held the last days of September and the first days of October and also that Dénia will host the Festival of Humanities in October.

The mayor has also highlighted the University City project, the financing obtained from the Next Generation European funds to equip the Torrecremada house and has announced that financing for the drafting of the project has been requested in the new call for Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans of campus for the development of the studies of the degree of Gastronomic Sciences of the University of Alicante for a value of 1,3 million euros.
