The City Council of Dénia approves the final award of the garbage collection, eco-park and street cleaning contract to Urbaser
The plenary session of the city council approved yesterday unanimously the definitive award of the contract for the urban solid waste collection service, management of the eco-park and street cleaning to the Urbaser company. The contract will be valid for 10 years from the date of its signature and an annual cost for the council of 7.467.000 euros.
The new contract introduces changes and improvements with respect to the previous concession that will allow, in the words of the Councilor for Ecological Transition, Maite Pérez Conejero, "to greatly improve the service and for the city council to have greater control over compliance with the provisions, since it is agreed to update it every two years ”.
Among the most significant changes to be introduced are:
- Unification of the image of air containers and their anchorage to a rail to prevent them from being displaced.
- Increase in the capacity of the containers to 3.000 liters.
- The new air containers are designed to be more accessible to people with mobility difficulties and will have a lower height and a wider mouth to facilitate storage.
- Change of all underground container mailboxes to facilitate their emptying, which will be faster and, therefore, will minimize the inconvenience that it may cause to the public.
- The containers for the collection of green are increased from 7 to 21.
- Implementation of organic collection, in closed containers with card access. 10.000 containers will be distributed among the homes that are interested. Likewise, two community composting areas will be created and individual composters will be distributed among those who request them.
- Garbage collection is extended to two areas where the service is not currently offered: the Garganta de Gata and Monte Pego.
- The “door-to-door” collection will be implemented in neighborhoods with low-rise dwellings, such as Baix la Mar and Les Roques and in La Xara and Jesús Pobre, but the service will also be extended to the hospitality sector.
- The collection of household goods doubles its frequency and will take place both in the morning and in the afternoon.
- The clothing collection service is introduced and the number of containers distributed throughout the city will be increased. Likewise, a diaper and padding collection service is incorporated, mainly in areas where there are nurseries and in the Santa Llúcia residence.
- Street cleaning will also be reinforced with the establishment of morning, afternoon and night shifts.
- The improvements to the new contract also include the cleaning machinery, which incorporates gas-fueled trucks and electric vehicles.
- Regarding selective collection and eco-park, the contract improvements include the creation of a point for the reuse of electrical appliances that work, but are no longer useful for their owners. The city council will be in charge of finding a new destination for them, always under social criteria. A fixed proximity ecopoint will also be installed, where to deposit small electrical appliances and five mini-points for the collection of toner, mobile phones or batteries.
Likewise, the plenary session held yesterday unanimously approved the award of the concession contract for the exclusive use of public domain assets through advertising installation and exploitation, and an institutional declaration to ask the Government for an immediate reform of the financing system.
The two credit modifications proposed by the municipal government also obtained the unanimous support of all political groups. One of 245.000 euros to pay for the third and fourth quarter of the Zonal Waste Plan, which will come from the remainder of the treasury, and another of 2.500 euros for activities related to equality within the Manconumitat de Serveis Socials de la Maria Alta (MASSMA).
It was approved with the votes in favor of the PSPV, Ciudadanos y Compromís, and the abstention of Gent de Dénia and the Popular Party, the commitment to carry out the draft of the Pla Jove de Dénia.
In the emergency section, it was approved, at the proposal of the Department of Ecological Transition, to initiate the preliminary consultation procedures of the market in order to correctly prepare the tender for the energy services and maintenance contract with a total guarantee of the outdoor public lighting installations , traffic lights and sports facilities through a mixed supply and service contract from the Dénia Town Hall. The proposal was supported by a majority by the groups PSPV, Compromís, Ciudadanos and PP, with the abstention of Gent de Dénia.
The other point of urgency was a proposal from the Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies for the council's adhesion to the program contract to be signed with the Vice Presidency and Ministry of Equality and Inclusive Policies for collaboration and inter-administrative and financial coordination in matters of Social Services in the years 2021-2024. The point was approved with the favorable votes of the PSPV and Compromís, and the abstention of the rest of the municipal groups.
