Dénia continues his crusade against the tiger mosquito

August 26 from 2016 - 12: 04

Dénia City Council continues its particular battle against the Tiger mosquito control actions and conducting surveillance in municipal environments. The company in charge of the service, Lokímica SA, has been conducting exhaustive tests and treatments in all public places that serve as breeding and shelter. We must take special attention to the accumulation of temporary or permanent water classified as breeding foci: scuppers, fountains and irrigation in gardens and parks, school supplies or deposits of flowers. The population monitoring is done once a week.

Within the Municipal Program for Prevention and Control of Mosquito it insists on that particular level, is located and avoid, as far as possible, the possible accumulations of water in properties. And that is to obtain satisfactory results even more citizen cooperation is necessary.

Tips to fight the plague

Dénia City Council reminds the public a series of effective tips to combat the pest, present in the Valencian coast from 2009. It is suggested to avoid containers that can accumulate stagnant water (buckets, drums or plates pot) to prevent reproduction and maintain adequate levels of chlorine in swimming pools, ponds and lakes throughout the year.

It is also important to protect the wells and ponds with mosquito nets so they do not lay their eggs and monitor drip irrigation, which can leave small spots of water in pots and dishes. Finally, do not forget to renew every 2 or 3 days water drinkers animals, and pour water into sinks (at least once a week) to avoid stagnation.

Public campaigns in the Valencian Community have been effective to the extent that localized foci are more controlled than in previous summers. In the case of Dénia, the number of complaints of tiger mosquito bites has decreased and work continues on treatments against other mosquito species and their populations.
