Dénia pays devotion to the Virgen de los Desamparados on her big day

May 14 from 2018 - 10: 16

As on the second Sunday of May, the streets of Dénia were filled with devotion for the Xeperudeta, the patron saint of the sailors. The procession in honor of the Virgen de los Desamparados gathered thousands of people along the route, with departure and arrival in the parish of San Antonio.

Minutes after the 20: 30 hours started the procession, led by the boys and girls of the Juniors. After them, dozens of little ones who have taken the first communion these days, accompanied by their relatives, and behind them, a large number of women dressed in rigorous black to accompany the image of the Virgin.

The components of the Comissió de Festes de la Mare de Déu carried the image on their shoulders, preceded by the positions of the National Police of Dénia, who participated again in the procession. The religious positions of the city were also present, as well as representatives of the Sant Roc, Moors and Christians, and Fallas de Dénia festivals.

The first stop was made at the Maristas school, where a few words of homage to the Virgin were read and petals and confetti were thrown in her honor. The procession then went through Ronda Murallas until arriving, along Pont Street, at the Baix la Mar fault house, where the 2018 charges made a wreath to the image.

Already in the port, the image could not complete the usual route next to the boats due to the works that are being done in the old fish market. There was no lack, however, of the loud horns of the boats docked in honor of their patron.

Before entering Marqués de Campo street, the last stop was made to sing the hymn of the Virgin, after which four confetti cannons were fired, replacing, since last year, the fireworks castle that is not allowed to be thrown in the harbor area.

The image of the Virgin crossed the Marqués de Campo street to return to the parish of San Antonio, where this year, in addition to the light show that premiered last year, the voice of the young Alba Sánchez was heard live. He sang a salve to the image.
