Dénia reference in the celebration of International Mountain Day

The city of Dénia, through the Local Agenda 21, participated in this celebration promoted by the UN since 2009, organizing various activities around the mountains in general and the Montgó in particular.

Dénia created a few years ago a communication project that articulates from social networks known as Welovemountains which earned him his appointment as a full member of the Mountain Partnership United Nations 2013. And this year has gone a step further, as the FAO and the Mountain Partnership have decided to incorporate the #welovemountains hashtag as a center of global DIM 2014 message.

This fact has been highlighted by the Councilor for Local Agenda 21, Vicente Chelet, in the institutional act of commemoration of the International Mountain Day held at the Dénia Town Hall.

An act in which the mayor, Ana Kringe; the general director of the Natural Environment, Salomé Pradas; the vice president of the Spanish Federation of Mountain and Climbing Sports and president of the federation in the Valencian Community, Francisco Durá; and the representative of the Information and Communication Area of ​​the FAO Mountain Partnership, Sara Manuelli, who participated in the event from Rome through a videoconference.

The councilor has made a review of the main landmarks of the Welovemountains platform and the mountainlovers movement. Chelet, has indicated that "we also have a mission to accomplish here: sharing and solidarity, seek consensus and try reconciliation, seek challenges that are common objectives together and reach the summit".

Sálome Pradas bet noted that since the Government is in everything that involves the Mountain Day, trying civil society imbued with the values ​​which postulates the celebration. Activities have been organized in twelve of the twenty natural parks in the Community which involved more than 800 people. Pradas Dianense congratulated the council for disclosure and environmental protection.

The FAO representative stressed "the great commitment of the Ajuntament de Dénia in favor of the mountains of the world". For his part, Francisco Durá has requested the involvement of civil society, governments, municipalities and athletes to continue enjoying the mountains free.

Durá has been commissioned to read the official statement of the International Day of Mountains 2014 with which it has put an end to the act.
