Dénia participates in a meeting in Portugal fishing

Josep Crespo, Councilor for the Environment and Fisheries of the Dénia City Council, participated last week in the third working meeting of the partners of the European project on fishing EU-FIN European Union Fishing Network, held in the Portuguese city of Espinho.

Last May was Dénia host this meeting, attended by partners from ten European countries: Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Cyprus, Albania, Portugal and Montenegro.

At the meeting were representatives of municipalities 19 European coastal municipalities that are part of the project, the Secretary of State of the Sea and other Portuguese authorities and technicians from several agencies government.

Councilman Denia, who was accompanied by the marine and fishing Ajuntament de Dénia environmental coordinator, Toni Martínez, took part in the panel discussion and debate exposing projects related to fisheries where working from the town hall and where they also discussed strategies to strengthen the fishing fleet and measures enhancing marine reserves.

Through these meetings the aim is to get a plan helps to keep the sector commercial fishing locally and use their history and culture to value the work of people who go to sea every day and whose future is increasingly uncertain.

The last EU FIN meeting will be in October in Italy. There the member cities of the program will present their final projects and close the strategic lines that will lead to a definitive program of actions that will have the support of the European Union.
