Dénia honors Sister Pilar Adell, the woman "who gave life to the years"

Promoter of the Santa Lucia Nursing Home, a pioneer in the defense of personal, labor and social rights of people and "an example of humanity and heart." For all this, the Carmelite sister Pilar Adell has been recognized by the City Council of Dénia in the Institutional Act of the International Day of Working Women.

Sister Pilar, born in Zaragoza but Dianense adoption Dénia reached for the first time in 1976 to take over, temporarily, the Hospital de la Caridad, with the City of Dénia. For a year he combined his work at the hospital with his work in Alcoy as instigator of the first labor nurseries until, in 1977, was finally transferred to Dénia to take charge of a center in very precarious conditions. But his work and that of other Carmelite sisters succeeded, in the year 1979, the Nursing Home St. Lucia, who led until 2000 was inaugurated.

The work of Sister Pilar in front of the residence, being directly involved in the work of social services and support to battered women, marginalized people, people with mental illness and disabilities and drug addicts, stressed greatly during your stay in Denia.

The Councilor for Equality, Elisabet Cardona, reviewed the intense life of Sister Pilar for the most needy people in the city, while the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, recalled anecdotes from the times when Sister Pilar was coming down personally to the pharmacy to pick up the medications of the elderly of the Residence.

During the ceremony spoke a working center, which highlighted "his bravery, his courage and the dedication he has always had towards others" while old photographs of the protagonist of the act were projected.

After receiving from the mayor's commemorative painting of his appointment, Pilar Adell wanted to especially emphasize two women who have marked his life: his mother, who took care of a large family, and sister Joaquina de Vedruna, founder of the Congregation Carmelite also brought forward a large family.

Pilar recalled that the achievements during their stay in Dénia were due to other Carmelite sisters and several dianenses who supported the project as Jaime Bertomeu, Father Antonio Sánchez and Pepe Catala out the Catala, who was present in the room. He was also the protagonist of one of the stories of the act, since after the words of the honoree seized the microphone to tell some anecdotes with Sister Pilar.
