Dénia coordinates a regional course on addictions and sanctions for substance use

The City of Dénia, through the Department of Social Welfare and through the Community Prevention of Addictive Behaviors Unit (UPCCA) coordinated the course The reality of addictions. Infractions and penalties for substance use, organized by the Service of Management of Drug Addiction and other Addictive Disorders of the General Directorate of Health Care.

The course was aimed at local police, Civil Guard and technicians from the UPCCA of the Marina Alta. The person in charge of teaching it was Mª Jesús Álvarez Pascual, legal technician of the Drug Dependence and Other Addictive Disorders Management Service of the Generalitat Valenciana. It was given at the Alicante Provincial Council office in Dénia and the attendance was about 45 participants from different locations in the Marina Alta such as Beniarbeig, Teulada, Gata de Gorgos, Benitachell, Vergel, Orba, Jalón, Denia and Jávea.

The course analyzed the data on the consumption of substances and the perception of the population on this problem. Information was also given on the different resources related to the consumption of substances to which agents can go to coordinate actions. Then, a tour of the infractions and administrative sanctions was made so that the local agents have clear competence when acting, making them participants in the procedure. Throughout the course, the guiding thread was to give importance to the role of prevention as an essential tool to deal with the abusive consumption of substances.
