Morera, visibly affected, announces his irrevocable resignation despite admitting that he was not aware of the seriousness of his actions and having done so without bad faith. However, he wanted to be responsible and accountable "so as not to dirty the good work of your team".

"I do not intend to make a circus of all this"said the councilor, who thanked Vicent Grimalt for his confidence and apologized for what he did not know at that time was an irregularity. "It's true that no one has put a gun to my chest", but admits that he did not think at that moment when it was proposed to him from an organ that he considers superior.

The councilor leaves her post immediately after 10 years in the City Council, announcing that she will not participate in the regular January plenary session that will take place this Thursday. In addition, Morera has ensured that he will not receive the second dose of the vaccine.

Morera presents his resignation to Grimalt

The councilor for Health and Social Welfare, Cristina Morera, presented this morning to the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, her resignation from the delegations and the act of councilor by the PSPV-PSOE of Dénia.

After it was made public that Morera received the vaccine against COVID-19 within the vaccination process carried out at the Santa Llúcia Residence, at the request of the Department of Public Health that asked for its collaboration to not lose leftover vaccine, as has happened in other health departments, the mayor has decided, "For personal reasons and in view of the fact that this mistake, made without being aware of its seriousness and following the instructions of the health authorities, may harm the good work that the government has been developing for years", leave office.

“This is a personal and irrevocable decision not to continue fueling the controversy and to allow my fellow councilors and councilors to continue working calmly and out of the media focus on a great project for Dénia, in which I also believe and for which I I have left the skin for the last five years ".

Both the municipal group and the executive of the PSPV-PSOE of Dénia, once the case had been studied and the version of the councilor confirmed by the head of Public Health, decided yesterday to request the health authorities, Public Health and the Ministry of Health, to clarify the facts and the criteria followed to request the collaboration of the mayor of Health and for having vaccinated her. The decision on the continuation of the position of the councilor was postponed while this investigation was closed and pending the final conclusions.

Even so, Cristina Morera has insisted, “The dimensions that the matter has acquired, public opinion and, after all, that today the pronouncement of the party at the national and regional level is what it is, have led me to make this decision, which I think is the best for the party, for the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, who trusted me and has expressed all his support, and also for the city of Dénia that, with what we are going through, it is not necessary that now be immersed in this controversy".

“I want to thank all the people who have worked with me over the years for the great job they have done and highlight from all of them their great dedication to public service. Citizens have always been, especially in this last very hard year, the priority ", added the councilor.

“Once again, excuse me. Despite the fact that, I insist, there was no bad faith in my performance, no intention of taking advantage of the position to receive the vaccine before anyone else. I just want this to be very clear, because during these years I believe that all the people who have known me, with whom I have worked and who have treated me and know me, know that the only thing that moved me to enter politics is to work for the people of my city ".

The mayor, Vicent Grimalt, has highlighted “Above all, the undoubted honesty of Cristina Morera. A very good councilor and a magnificent person, who has shown an incredible capacity for work in these months of pandemic, in front of two of the most complicated and relevant councils right now, Health and Social Welfare ".

“Cristina has been working 24 hours a day for the citizens of Dénia for months and I will always defend her integrity. An episode like this of vaccination, which unfortunately is taking away so many public officials and officials due to what seems to be a lack of precision and detail in the vaccination protocol, cannot tarnish an impeccable political record. She knows what I'm counting on and I'll count on her ".

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 28, the resignation of Councilor Cristina Morera will be announced in the ordinary plenary session so that the processing of the request for the act for the new councilor will begin, which will be Juan Sapena, number 13 on the list of the PSPV-PSOE for the May 2019 elections. In the same session, the redistribution of government delegations will be reported.
