Benito Mestre is elected as the new president of CEDMA

19 June 2019 - 19: 42

El empresario Benito Mestre Caudeli ha sido elegido, este miércoles por la tarde, como nuevo presidente del Cercle d’Empresaris de la Marina Alta (CEDMA), por unanimidad de las 32 personas que han participado en la elección del cargo.

Mestre's was the only candidacy presented, so there have been no surprises in the election. The new president takes over from Sonja Dietz, who after eight years in the presidency of CEDMA retires from the position "to open the door to new blood and another generation". In his farewell message, Dietz has asked the new president "continue working on the project to grow and expand throughout the region". The former president has received a long and affectionate applause from the audience at the end of her speech.

Before the vote, Benito Mestre has explained in broad strokes the project he will work on in the next four years, which includes "Open more to the region to have more strength, create more synergies and collaborations with other municipalities". Mestre has stressed that, in addition to reclaiming historic infrastructures such as the train or the liberalization of the AP7, they will fight for the creation of a technological park and an industrial estate at a regional level.

The new president has placed special emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that mark the 2030 agenda, aligning their proposals with these objectives. From their point of view, employers have an obligation to «defend the sustainable growth of the economy» besides committing to the environment.

In this sense, Mestre has claimed that «all sectors of the economy are necessary. "We must find a way to integrate them all and create a tourism offer that creates employment, wealth, promotes agriculture and protects the landscape.".

After the voting process, Mestre has announced the five commissions that will be worked on, beginning with the one of Institutional relations and regional development, by Ángel Vives. The commission of Industry will be in charge of Rosario Carrió; the one Territory and Sustainability, by Jesús Reina; Isabel Agulles will take care of Tourism and Commerce and Antonio Cidoncha, of Training and Employment.
