Baleària adds a new North American route

August 12 from 2019 - 09: 21

The Dianense shipping company began last week its second route between the United States and the Bahamas, which connects the island of Bimini with Fort Lauderdale, north of Miami. The fast ferry that is responsible for joining both ports has capacity for 650 people and navigates at a maximum speed of 38 knots, so the crossing is less than two hours. The shipping company, which operates in the area as Baleària Caribbean, has scheduled five weekly services to Bimini, which can be increased according to demand.

The president of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, has shown his satisfaction at the opening of the new line that "It will improve the quality of service between Florida and Bimini, by operating with a ship of greater speed, capacity and comfort for passengers".

Baleària operates from 2011 the route from Fort Lauderale to Grand Bahama, where almost a million passengers have traveled since its inception. The shipping company had already made the route with Bimini for a few months in 2013. The shipping company, which operates three other international routes in North Africa, wants to consolidate itself as a global operator by expanding its business model in other Caribbean countries, such as Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic or Cuba. In 2018, Baleària exceeded for the first time the million passengers on international routes, which means that one in four passengers in the group traveled on one of these lines. It should be noted that the turnover in the external routes grew by 16% in 2018, reaching 22% over the Baleària overall.
