For a few months, the life of the dianense, Verónica Mengual, has changed. From a journalist, a profession she currently practices, to a writer of romantic literature. A colonel for Lady Briana It is Mengual's new novel that will be presented to the public, this Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Dénia Public Library. A new story with which he hopes to reap good reviews, make the reader enjoy and, most importantly, get a place in the literary world.
For Verónica, this is the first book that will be released in Spain, but the truth is that, since she began her career as an author last October with the launch of Lady V. does not want to marry by the hand of the Argentine publisher Vestales, the literary proposals have not stopped reaching him.
Now, in the hands of the publishing house based in the Balearic Islands, Romantic Editions, the dianense launches its new work of fiction based on the romanticism of the period, specifically, a story located around the English Regency of the nineteenth century, a thread of its editions.
«I am very happy with this launch, I finally have a novel that my loved ones will be able to enjoy, since the first one I launched has not reached Spain, although I do not lose the hope that some large publisher can export the rights here».
Feminism
Mengual points out that although his works are similar in terms of the basis of the story, «I try to do things differently when I write, but the common thread is always the relationship between the couple formed by a man and a woman. The setting I create is a time where counts, dukes and great ladies abound. We must keep in mind that we are talking about a very sexist moment where women's rights are barely non-existent, they are the property of men. In my books it is also like that, but they are not going to be docile or submissive, that is why the reading must be done in a feminist key, because they are strong protagonists with clear ideas.
They are risky books, since that society is in public of correct and rigid morals, in private it was something else, but the ladies lose their reputation even sometimes because they are touched and discovered; and then they are repudiated and set aside as stunk.
De A colonel for Lady Briana, its author tells us that it is a story where a military man goes to battle against Napoleon's troops and where a young woman, who has spent much of his life in love with him is declared, "When we return from the war we will find out what happens to the two of them, their love story, which will be full of misunderstandings, comic situations and a lot of romanticism".
Both of A colonel for Lady Briana and Lady V. does not want to marry they are a series of books, which despite being initially thought of as a trilogy, "There will surely be four or five self-contained volumes, so you can enjoy each copy separately, it is not necessary to read the others, although it is true that it is more enjoyable", says our protagonist.
Critics
From her first novel, Veronica feels very happy with the criticisms received, «the sales figures of Lady V. does not want to marry They are good, just over 300 copies in just two months. For me, they are magnificent figures and I hope that Briana's story is liked as much as Valerie's, which is the name of my other female protagonist.

«I am aware that romanticism is a highly criticized genre, some even call it a subgenre of narrative, but for me, the tension that occurs in conflicts between couples is what I like to read and write the most. »Mengual points out. At the end of the whole journey, I think the important thing is that they read your story, if they don't like it, that's great and if they like it, even better, but what I want is for them to read me and give me a chance. "We don't all like the same things, right?" adds the young Dianense author.
I have two readers 0 who are advising me, Tania del Arco and Nuria Savall and they assure me that they enjoy the romantic stories that I devise in my mind. We'll see what the rest think with the story of Briana.
Future Projects
As we have commented, Mengual's writing part is in a non-stop way, and in the absence of a few days for the launch of his second book, he is already immersed in a new project for the future, "It is a bilogy that will probably see the light of day in 2021 with the help of Grupo Romance Editorial". But Verónica Mengual, lover of letters, is also part of the staff of writers of Penguin random house, since with the digital seal Selecta has published another work of current theme and it is expected that from February a total of eleven short novels of romantic historical genre will be released.
Undoubtedly, enthusiasm and desire to write is what this writer brings, which will soon have 22 novels under her belt without her having imagined, «I come from a family of printers and perhaps, my childhood among inks, papers and printing machines has made letters inspire me, which led me to study journalism and for about a year and a half to write fiction and this has made that many publishers were interested in what I write».
Of the total of 22 novels he plans to release, Vestales will publish 4 books (maybe some more), Romantic Editions, four others, the twelve that go with Selecta (short novels) and the two books that he will sign shortly with Grupo Romance Editorial.
