The dianense Marta García walks firm towards her great dream to compete in Formula 1

May 08 from 2019 - 09: 02

Dianense driver Marta García has started her career with a firm step towards her great dream of being able to climb and compete in a Formula 1 car. The women's world championship has started impeccably, driving an F3, as in the first race at the Hockenheim circuit it ended up climbing to the third position on the podium.

At her 18 years, the Dianense (the youngest of the peloton in the W Series), has returned to international competition after a year and a half of break, causing a great impression, even among those who had seen her compete before and knew of his talent.

The surprise was even greater, since the first sessions of the weekend were not as promising as the final result. In the free practice sessions, the Spaniard was looking for rhythm, and in qualifying she left some note of what was to come: she would play her first race from the fifth position on the grid.

After facing difficult track conditions in the second round of free practice and qualifying, with a wet track and temperatures dropping to 5ºC, the Hockenheim track was almost dry for the race.

In the race he had a lot of endurance at the start getting his car on track. While Kimiläinen and Gilkes collided in the early stages causing the safety car to leave. After the withdrawal of the same, the two British Chadwick and Powell, surpassed the leader Moore, and then do the same Marta.

The Dianense was able to maintain an unappealable rhythm, especially in the second part of the test. Little by little it was getting closer to the head duo that was practically overcome. He finished third and with the feeling that he is facing a great season where good results can come.

In a press conference after the podium, she emphasized not only the great significance for her of an initiative such as the W Series, and for women in general, but how well placed the whole program was, with words of thanks to the entire team around Catherine Bond-Muir, CEO of the W Series, and Matt Bishop, director of communication.

When asked about how she was going to face this moment in the next race, which will be held in 17 and 18 in May, she said flatly that she was going to be more or less the same as before: a lot of work in the simulator, analyzing data, including the Hockenheim race, and with the aim of putting all the necessary means to be fast from the beginning of the weekend, and fight for the first place.

The W Series, whose registration is free, puts behind the wheel of Formula 3 cars to 18 women, among whom Jamie Chadwick, of 20 years, starts, as the first woman to win a race in the 3 British Formula 2018. The championship, which consists of six races, offers 1,5 millions of dollars in prizes, of which 500.000 are for the winner.

The next appointment for this women's competition will take place at the Belgian circuit of Zolder, the 17 and 18 in May. As on this occasion, there will be only one sleeve.
