[VIDEO] The bell for the oncology patients of the Hospital de Dénia to express their emotions

August 08 from 2018 - 18: 28

The Chemotherapy Room of the Onco-Hematologic Day Hospital of the Hospital de Dénia has, from now on, a novelty that will allow patients to express their emotions through sound. It is a campaign through which patients who have good news can make it sound, but also those who have anger and helplessness.

The idea arose as a result of a similar experience set in motion in a center of Infant Oncology in the United States. The Supervisor of the Onco-Hematological Day Hospital of Dénia, Mª José Más Llull, assures that "During the chemotherapy treatments the emotions are in full bloom and the American video moved me and invited me to think that it would be a good idea to offer this possibility to the patients of the Dénia Hospital".

Colored drawings by patients

The campaign is part of a joint initiative launched by the psycho-creative therapy specialist, Alicia Costa, and the illustrator, Natascha Rosenberg. Both had their father and mother, respectively going through an oncological process; so they decided to create a "maritime" space in the Onco-Hematology Day Hospital. To this end, Costa and Rosenberg designed the shapes of the aquatic creatures that the patients have colored.

According to the authors, the project has been a success, not only for the plastic result but also for the involvement of the patients.

The action is framed within the cuidArt project, the art program of the Dénia Hospital that works on the humanization of health spaces using art as a tool to improve the health and well-being of people.
