If there is a raw material that we can feel more our own than none, that is the orange. In the Marina Alta there are many producing companies, which offer first hand this product of proximity: Dénia organic mandarin, Hort Obert, Joan Gasquet, Pego Natura or Coopego.
Thanks to them, the Department of Environment and Climate Change of the City of Dénia has carried out, during these weeks, a campaign to promote the consumption of organic fruit and vegetables. To date, around 700 school children from the educational centers of Dénia, La Xara and Jesús Pobre, have participated in the campaign Sucs a l'escola.
Through this activity, schoolchildren have visited the Torrecremada park, taking inventory of the fruit and vegetables that have been found both in the park's trees and in the urban gardens. Then, thanks to the collaboration of the producers of the region and the management of the Office of Innovation and Creativity of the City Council of Dénia, they tasted a freshly squeezed orange juice.
During the itinerary highlights the value of local products, to promote the local economy, employment in agriculture, and the maintenance of cultivated agricultural land, reducing pollution by long trips. In addition, students receive a hard plastic cup sponsored by the Association of the Mercat del RiuRau de Jesús Pobre, to signify an example of proximity market with organic products.
It is foreseen that these activities will continue throughout the 2017 / 2018 course.
