[VIDEO] Artemis Unit presents the "real" women's magazine that hides aid for victims of gender violence

November 26 from 2019 - 11: 42

The Councilor for Citizen Protection, Equality and Diversity, Javier ScottoLast night, he presented a pilot project carried out by the Artemis Unit of the Dénia Local Police two years ago and that, for the safety of the victims, has been maintained last night during the vindictive acts of the November 25 against gender violence secretly until today, once the magazines of the establishments have been removed. Scotto led the presentation accompanied by the chief commissioner of the Dénia Local Police, José Martínez Espasa, Eva Gadea, Artemis Unit police officer, and Alfred Pavia, campaign material developer.

It is a “feminine” magazine that camouflage inside phone numbers, interesting facts, advice and testimonials from other women that can help potential victims of abuse.

Why this format? The main reason is the safety of the victims. From the Artemis Unit it was found that many women are reluctant to take home brochures or catalogs in which to find these tips for fear of reprisals from their partners. So it was decided to hide all that information in a format that could go unnoticed as another magazine. Photographs, headlines, typefaces, design, everything is designed so that, at first glance, it looks like another publication.

But it was decided to take the project a step further. Another important point to discuss is the difficulty of many women victims of opening up to dialogue with the police of the group. However, in more relaxed areas it is possible that they lose that fear of giving some data. For example, when they go shopping, to class, to the hairdresser or to the gym. So it was decided to carry out training classes in establishments that have a very direct treatment with clients. During the conference they were taught to detect possible symptoms in the victims, to deal with them, to give them information through the magazine and to encourage them to request help from the police.

Thus, 70 magazines were distributed in 18 establishments in Dénia. Six months later, the results could not be more satisfactory: 24 women called the Local Police phone to ask for help encouraged by the information found in the magazine.

This project, assumed by the Department of Citizen Protection, intended to be able to reach victims of gender violence, provide information, methods of protection and police access, and, above all, favor the complaint, given that it is the situation of underreporting victims - taking into account that 80% of the women killed had not previously reported - a problem that wants to be addressed through these types of proposals. Silence is lethal to the life of these battered women and any formula that improves its accessibility to the police, the Court and the complaint, allows to combat this social scourge.

They are, without a doubt, more than positive numbers that have encouraged the project to continue, expanding the number and type of establishments. Of course, the design of the magazine has been completely modified to continue guaranteeing the safety of the victims. Besides, the Artemis unit He has presented the project to police stations in other locations, which have already shown interest in implementing it in view of the good results obtained.

Prior to the presentation of this action of the Artemis Unit, the institutional manifesto of the International Day against gender violence took place, which had been agreed upon by the Consell de les Dones de Dénia. The mayor of Dénia read the manifesto, Vicent Grimalt, and the councilors and councilors Cristina Morera (PSPV-PSOE), Eva Round (Compromís), Eva Catalá (PP), Susana Mut (Cs) and mario vidal (Gent of Dénia), members of the Council.

The full text of the manifesto

“Since official statistics began to be collected in 2003, 1.027 women have been killed in Spain by their partners or ex-partners. They would be 1.028 if it is confirmed that the dead woman this morning is also a victim of sexist violence. A violence to which we do not want to remain impassive.

November 25 was declared a Day against violence against women, and all types of violence against women in the world were recognized for being a woman.

The year 1999 the UN gave official date to this date. With the commemoration of this day we want to draw attention and raise awareness that violence against women is one of the most widespread forms of violence in the world.

And we cannot stop fighting every day to eradicate this scourge, and to combat its root, the origin of inequality between women and men, patriarchy.

Violence against women is one of the most degrading violations of Human Rights and continues to progress globally. It does not respect borders, cultures and economic levels. It is present in times of conflict and in peacetime, at work, at home and on the street.

Macho violence is the maximum representation of gender inequality, and today, in the 21st century, it is a problem of social magnitude. No one can, therefore, stay out of the fight against violence against women, because it is an evil that attacks society indiscriminately; a detestable act that disqualifies who performs it and also who tolerates it.

The special incidence of sexist violence in Spain means an absolutely devastating gender terrorism, it has to shame us as a society, and it requires a blunt global response: we have to prevent attempts to justify, minimize, banal or hide gender violence, denounce any kind of abuse towards women and corner the aggressors.

Sexist violence is revealed more shockingly in the incessant and terrible drip of murders of women by their partners and ex-partners, but it is also present in other daily manifestations related to psychological, economic and physical abuse.

One of the most widespread forms of macho violence that best represents patriarchy is sexual violence.

Sexual violence in its various manifestations: sexual assaults, rapes, female genital mutilation, treats for the purpose of sexual exploitation ...

With them they pretend, and get, that women know what our place in this patriarchal system is, the place of submission, while, to whom they exercise sexual violence against women, men, the place of the denomination corresponds, of power of control

We need a paradigm shift, a justice with a gender perspective.

The violation must be a crime that is carried out without the victim's consent and not against his or her will.

Silence is not consent nor does it have to be interpreted as such.

It is necessary to adopt measures in all fields. From the City Council of Dénia work in the field of education, social policies, prevention, awareness, awareness and assistance, to educate in equality, because without equality there can be no freedom.

It also requests active struggle, social participation to develop effective and effective actions and to avoid allowing and standardizing speeches that show permissiveness to violence.

One more year, we want to remind each and every one of the deadly victims of gender violence. This year, with two months to go, there are already 51 women, with today's 52, with names and surnames, with dreams and illusions, with lives that were truncated by cruel violence, since the November 26 of the year past.

And also, to all the minors, to the daughters and sons of the abusers, victims in turn of this violence, even fatalities, turned into the last exercise of revenge towards women.

As a consequence of this, we demand the application and greater budgetary endowment of the Comprehensive Law against gender violence, and we demand General State Budgets with a gender perspective. ”
