Two Dutch men, of 25 years of age, have been arrested in Dénia by the Civil Guard as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime, seizing more than 15 kilos of crystal methamphetamine type drug.

The detainees intended to embark on the ferry to Ibiza, for once on the island sell the drug for which they would have obtained a benefit of approximately 400.000 euros. The drug traveled hidden in a compartment created especially for it in the trunk of the vehicle, which was only accessible by activating an electronic mechanism, activated by a switch that was hidden in the passengers.

Despite the difficulties, the Civil Guard agents detected small details that made them suspect and, after a more thorough examination, dismounted one of the separation plates of the floor of the trunk, until finding the hiding place. When they removed the plaque, they found the drug hidden, packed in vacuum plastic bags, still on large glass stones. Its cutting and preparation in doses, would have taken place on the busy island, as well as its sale.

Thanks to the actions of the agents of the Civil Guard of Dénia, it has been possible to avoid the consumption of these 15 kilograms of amphetamine that, depending on its purity still to be analyzed, could have become more than a million and a half doses for its consumption.

The agents are now investigating the origin of the cargo, although the hypothesis that the drug was "cooked" outside Spanish territory, in a country of the European Union, is being considered.

The two men, of Dutch nationality and 25 years of age, have gone to court this morning, in the Court of Instruction nº 3 of Denia, being decreed their admission in prison without bail.

The greatest threat to health

Methamphetamine is rated as posing the greatest threat to health in the latest World Drug Report. This type of synthetic drug has stimulant effects, increasing the dopamine in the brain, which is a neurotransmitter responsible for activating sensations such as happiness, pleasure, and even the control of motor functions. It is usually consumed inhaled by respiratory route, smoking its vapors and through the intravenous route, achieving a maximum level of addiction.

The consumption of this drug is growing in Europe, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), especially in leisure and tourist areas, due to the feeling of euphoria and hyperactivity that they provoke, although it is proven that It damages the heart and the brain, sometimes causing psychotic behavior, aggression and in many cases, death due to overdose.
