[VIDEO] A Belgian fugitive from 71, wanted for murder, is detained in the Marina Alta

Agents of the National Police have arrested in Calp a fugitive of Danish nationality sought by the Belgian authorities who had issued a European Order of Detention and Delivery for Extradition (OEDE) purposes. The arrested man had fled the country before being tried and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his former partner.

Agents of the Organized Crime Group of the UDYCO of the Provincial Police Station of Alicante in collaboration with the Fugitive Tracing Group of the General Commissioner of the Judicial Police have developed a special search device after receiving news from the Belgian authorities about the possible presence of the fugitive in the north of the Alicante coast.

After several investigations the investigators managed to locate and arrest the fugitive, who was considered by the claimant country as violent and very dangerous. The now arrested, had been included in the list of the most wanted criminals in that country, by the so-called FAST (Fugitive Active Search Team) of the Belgian Federal Police.

The agents of the Judicial Police of Alicante located him in the town of Calp, where he enjoyed a relaxed life and maintained good contacts with other foreign citizens settled in the area.

He killed his former partner

The facts for which he was tried and detained go back to the year 2009 when according to the sentence, the fugitive shot up five times against his former partner with an 22 caliber weapon causing his death. According to the two daughters of the marriage, victim and aggressor had a bad relationship since the separation of both because of the economic consequences of the divorce.

Due to these events in the Belgian town of Maasmechelen, the fugitive had been sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment, with the possibility of revision in 20 years. Although before the conclusion of the trial he fled the country finding himself unaccounted for since then.

The detainee, of 71 years of age, will be placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court today that will be in charge of carrying out the procedures related to his extradition.
