UNED Dénia concludes the "Scientific and Progress" cycle

January 24 from 2022 - 11: 39

UNED Denia, Xàbia and Benidorm conclude the first cycle of "Scientists and Progress", although they will maintain until the end of February the 3rd Exhibition that receives the same name. Through this initiative, since September 2021, the UNED has been able to give visibility to science through the interventions of scientific people in the roundtables and tables of the cycle experience.

In this way, the first cycle in which it has been possible to promote studies in all scientific branches and motivate women, especially, to be encouraged to study and learn about university studies, ends.

Interested people and students have been able to follow in person, online and deferred, in six different sessions, the development of the three thematic blocks in which the activity has been structured. These are Physics and Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Chemistry and Environmental Sciences.

The director of the UNED Dénia, Xàbia and Benidorm Center, Raquel Martí, concluded: «This last table of the experience will be the finishing touch to see science and progress as something natural, something to which both women and men have dedicated a large part of their lives aimed at improving our quality of life, developing technology, help us to cure diseases and, ultimately, move forward. Not only as professionals but as they have been able to observe, as great people.

«From here we encourage to study these university careers. It should be remembered that, despite the social and cultural advances in gender balance in recent decades, there are still few girls who choose STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers and then enter the labor market. in professions in this field. Fewer still are those who manage to access leadership and decision-making positions, even in eminently female fields, such as medicine or pharmacy, "added the director.

These days have served to make visible and listen to the women who have narrated their experience on the way to breaking the glass ceiling.
