The Department of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society has decided to grant a total of 8.350.100 euros in salary scholarships linked to income for 1.932 students from the public universities of the Valencian Community.

It is an aid to guarantee that students who start their studies can finish their university training with a salary destined to training. In this way, students can collaborate with their family by contributing a salary of up to 600 euros per month during the four years of training, provided that they pass the courses academically and meet the academic requirements established in the call.

The salary scholarships are aimed at students who start their university studies for the first time in the 2020-2021 academic year, as well as the students who are beneficiaries of these grants in last year's call.

The Department allocates to these grants a maximum global amount of a maximum of 14.500.000 euros in 2020. This amount may be increased by up to 2.000.000 additional euros, corresponding to the 2021 annuity, and that will be allocated, in a new resolution, to those students who are not beneficiaries of scholarships from the Ministry of Education.

With this, Universities have increased by 15% the total investment allocated to grants compared to the last year and has multiplied the amount allocated to this type of scholarship by four, which has gone from 4,2 million euros in 2016, to 16.500.000.

Specifically, of the students receiving the salary scholarship, 643 correspond to the University of Valencia and receive 2.771.700 euros; 229 students study at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the amount awarded reaches 993.200 euros.

As for the Universitat d'Alacant, the number of beneficiaries is 713 and they will receive 3.086.300 euros; With regard to the students of the Jaume I University of Castelló, the number of beneficiaries is 150 and they will receive 651.800 euros and, finally, the number of beneficiaries of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche is 197 and they will receive 847.100 euros.

Scholarship program of the Generalitat

The program of university scholarships and access to higher studies promoted by the Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society includes various forms of aid that have been growing during the last five years to reach the largest number of students and promote equality of opportunities.

The common goal is that no student is left without access to university studies for financial reasons. For this reason, the Consell has increased the budget for these scholarships to reach a total of 31.900.000 euros in 2021.

In addition, the economic and social crisis caused by COVID-19 has led to the adoption of extraordinary measures for the 2020-2021 academic year aimed at protecting university students. Among them, it is worth highlighting the reduction of academic requirements or the modification of the bases of the announcement of salary scholarships to open them to a greater number of students.
