A hundred people exchange their languages in Dénia with a trivia about general and regional culture

November 23 from 2022 - 11: 51

The International Relations area of the City Council organizes activities every year to promote linguistic exchange between Spanish-speaking citizens and people with other mother tongues. COVID-19 paralyzed one of the activities with the longest history of the 'relate and learn' programme, the pub quiz, until last Friday the 18th when it started up again with the assistance of more than 110 people.

The activity, organized with the collaboration of the Official School of Languages (EOI) of Dénia and associations of foreign residents such as U3A (University of the Third Age) and Euroclub, consists of a general culture question contest -half in English, half in Spanish. The participants are organized by teams formed equally by Spanish-speaking people and foreigners so that they communicate in order to win the game. In addition, a round of questions is included with questions related to the Marina Alta to spread the local culture.

The organizers highlight the great diversity of nationalities at the conference (British, German, Irish, American, Russian, and even Taiwanese, Canadian and Dutch), and the addition of new people each session.

This year, 60 people with Spanish as their mother tongue have joined the program; while the number of foreigners has risen by 30 people. The total figures rise to 1.300 Spanish speakers and 600 registered foreigners.
