May 17 from 2018 - 07: 59

Dénia will host, between the 21 and 24 of May, the XIII Week of Biodiversity, an initiative of the Department of Agriculture that aims to increase knowledge of flora and fauna species in the territory. This week is celebrated annually in different locations, and in 2018 the chosen place has been Dénia.

Biodiversity Week will bring to the capital of the Marina Alta to more than a hundred researchers, who during those days will carry out an exhaustive census of the different species that exist in our area, an area rich in biodiversity that currently occupies the 12th position in the ranking of species records in the Valencian Community.

Precisely, improve the position in that ranking is one of the challenges pursued this week. And, if there are currently around 25.000 records of fauna and flora, during the Biodiversity Week it is expected to reach the 35.000 records. Regarding the species detected, the objective is to reach the 2.600, compared to the 2.253 that currently exist. If these objectives are met, Dénia would be positioned among the five municipalities with the most species records.

The data extracted from the work carried out during this week will be incorporated into the Biodiversity Data Bank of the Valencian Community, the largest open access data collection platform that currently exists in Spain.
