One hundred descendants of families Carbonell and Morand meet again in Dénia

Some are reencontraton and otos met. And it is no wonder, since some came from as far away as South America or the Philippines. Quite an achievement of his driver, Nicolás Merle, who has consegudio bring together nearly a hundred descendants of families in Dénia Carbonell and Morand.

And to celebrate this important meeting, the City Council prepared an official reception for all the family. Mayor, Vicent Grimalt, Accompanied by Council Rafa Carrió, Javier Scotto and Miguel Llobell, received about fifty people in the hall of the City Council.

Grimalt reviewed in his speech the importance of these families in the city, remembering his connection to the business sector, the politician and especially the social Dénia. Throughout the years, there have been several social activities of the families Carbonell, Morand and Merle giving free of charge the land of the Hospital de la Caridad de Dénia, the cemetery grounds or promoting the cleaning of the port.

In fact, three of his relatives have streets in Dénia: Elena Morand, known as "the mother of the poor"Cándida Carbonell, which enabled the construction of the Marist school and Amparo Merle, mother of Ramón Cárdenas, first victim of the Civil War in Dénia.

The councilman of Culture, Rafa Carrió, unveiled the surprise of the night: two busts belonging to Ethnological museum Cándida Carbonell and Juan Merle unaware that family. The works date from 1952 and are sculpted in bronze by artist Alfonso Gabino Pariente.

The promoter of the meeting, Dianense Nicolás Merle, could not hold the tears in his turn to speak. Thrilled, he recalled that his family has over 150 years in Denia, at home, and was happy to have made possible important family meeting.

To finish the act, and before the family photo was taken, the attendees received a bag with information about the city and a copy of the book Puerto del Este, Jesús Moncho, which stars the Morand-Merle.
