Surprising poachers fishing for sea urchins in the Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserve

January 29 from 2018 - 16: 02

Two people were surprised last Friday morning when they tried to take more than a hundred hedgehogs captured in the Marine Natural Reserve of Cap de Sant Antoni.

It was the Coastguard service, co-managed by the Ajuntament de Dénia and the Generalitat Valenciana, who, after detecting one of them in the water, near the area called El Faralló, suspected that he was illegally catching hedgehogs in the waters of the Marine Natural Reserve of Cap de Sant Antoni. The second involved waited on the coast for his partner to bring him the carrycot with the catch.

When he pulled it out of the water and was heading towards a van, he was surprised by the coastguards. After identifying the two poachers and counting the capture, 166 hedgehogs in total, minutes were drawn up and the specimens were returned to the sea. In the operation it was supported by a patrol of the Civil Guard, Fiscal area.

It should be remembered that the extraction of the rock hedgehog and the black hedgehog is regulated by Decree 50 / 2005 of the Generalitat Valenciana, which expressly prohibits fishing "through the practice of diving", either in apnea or in any other modality, as well as its extraction "in areas classified as marine reserves of fishing interest under the Law 9 / 1998, of December 15, of the Generalitat, of Maritime Fishing of the Valencian Community".
