The UNED Dénia course begins "Unraveling the addicted brain"

The course, sponsored by the Dènia City Council and which has had the collaboration of the CA UNED Dénia Observatory for Equality, has been presented by Ms. Raquel Martí Signes, Director of the CA UNED Dénia and Mr. Jaume Tortosa, Secretary of the CA UNED Dénia and Coordinator of University Extension.

Raquel Martí, has presented the course director, Alejandro Higueras and its coordinator, Nuria del Olmo, thanking them for their presence in these peculiar circumstances, both to the public present and to speakers. The sanitary measures that have been implemented to be able to follow this course in person follow the instructions of the sanitary authorities. It highlights the possibility of conducting online and deferred training courses, through the UNED support platform in a flexible way. In fact, the courses are having a great reception from the students. In addition, she stressed that UNED Dénia continues to offer training, culture and education, facilitating equal opportunities in the two regions of the Navy, thanks to the collaboration of the Governing Board, which makes it possible.

Jaume Tortosa highlighted in relation to the UNED summer courses in the context of Covid-19 “We have made the commitment to continue with the summer courses, I think it has worked out very well, because we managed to continue to be present in a way constant in our environment and also the possibility that people can take summer courses, which after all is a tradition that is over 30 years old (...). We are proud to be able to do them, we are especially happy and happy. ”

After the presentation, the conference was inaugurated with the conference "Introducing the addicted brain" by D. Alejandro Higuera Matas, Professor of Psychobiology at UNED. Alejandro Higuera has made an introduction to the human nervous system, exposing the main characteristics of the nervous tissue, its main cells and the main communication pathways between neurons, later delving into the specific problem of addictions. The professor of Psychobiology has commented that "All factors have a place and influence an addiction (...) the common factor a priori is biology, a factor that unites us all, but then the learning history of each person is crucial (…) ”.

Then there was the presentation "Food as a drug of abuse" by Ms. Nuria del Olmo Izquierdo, Professor of Psychobiology at UNED who has delved into the definition of what is an addiction to substances, subsequently entering into addiction to food, commenting that "Various authors have shown that some behaviors such as craving for consumption , the feeling of loss of control over it and using consumption to reduce anxiety and negative emotions, are behaviors that drugs of abuse share with the consumption of certain foods. (…) The most studied is sugar, which seems to provide a pleasant state and addictive behaviors as potent or more than some drugs such as cocaine or alcohol ”.

The course will continue until Friday, July 24, days in which various topics related to the brain and addictions will be discussed.

The course is completed with four hours of materials consultation and active student participation in the virtual course forum.

Registration is still open for the summer course "Music in the key of PSI: Psychology and Music", from July 27 to 29, and can be done in person, online and on a delayed basis.

Open the enrollment period between July 7 and October 22 for the 28 Degrees, 11 Combined Degrees, 79 Masters and Access to University at CA UNED Dénia and its classrooms Xàbia and Benidorm.
