The City Council of Dénia will approve in the plenary session of this month of November to initiate the reversion file of the plot of 870,86 square meters of the street of October 9 that it yielded to the Ministry of the Interior in 2009 for the construction of a new police station of National Police in Dénia. At the same time, the plenary session will be informed of the report from the Heritage and Architecture area of the General Directorate of the Police in favor of accepting the new location proposed by the city council for the infrastructure: a part of the municipal plot of Avenida de Miguel Hernández, 14- 16.
The site attached to the Palace of Justice was the initial site for the construction of a joint building that would be shared by the National Police Corps station and the offices of the Dénia Local Police. To this end, the plenary session of the city council in February 2009 agreed to transfer it free of charge to the Ministry of the Interior, which in May of that year accepted the transfer.
In September 2016, the Dénia City Council required the State Security Infrastructure and Equipment Management to rule on whether it continued with the will to build the National Police station on the assigned plot or if it chose to desist. In the latter case, and in the public interest, the land would revert to the denier consistory. The Ministry of the Interior then said he wanted to continue to have the plot and requested an extension of the period of assignment, the council agreed reiterating the need to comply with the conditions set.
In March 2019, the plenary session of the city council agreed to modify the purpose of the assignment of the site, which becomes, exclusively, the construction of the building for the National Police.
Finally, the Infrastructure and Equipment Management of the State Security, in a letter of April of this year, communicates to the City Council of Dénia that, taking into account the forecast of an increase in the staff of agents in the Dénia police station, it needs to have a Total buildable area of about 3.500 square meters, which is why the 870,86 square meter plot of land on 9 de Octubre street that the city council gave is no longer an option. For this reason, the city council is now beginning the process for its reversion to municipal ownership.
In relation to this plot, the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, has announced that talks have begun with the Department of Justice to assign it for the expansion of the current courts.
Regarding the project of a new National Police station in Dénia, the city council has proposed to Interior the transfer of another site. It is a part of the municipally owned plot of Avenida de Miguel Hernández, numbers 14 and 16, which is also on the corner of Avenida de Europa and Calle de Mira-rosa. The plot has a total area of 5.744 square meters, of which about 1.800 would be used in the new police building, since another part of the site, specifically 2.500 square meters, is offered for the construction of a new health center in the city of Dénia. And since there is still free space on the plot, there is the possibility of maintaining the two existing parks, the children's and the biosaludable.
The mayor and the councilor for Citizen Protection visited the plot a few weeks ago with the Government sub-delegate in Alicante, Araceli Poblador, and representatives of the General Directorate of the Police, who, after meeting her, have reported that the location is appropriate as headquarters. police, since it is located in an endowment and services area of the city, with access to three roads, one of them with a large capacity, and is located at a moderate distance from the urban center, which allows citizens to access it on foot.
