Hiking in Dénia: the route from the Camí de la Colònia to the Cova del Gamell

21 June 2020 - 11: 37

This route is very similar to the one that goes to Cova de l'Aigua (Cueva del Agua), because it comes from the same point, Ermita del Pare Pere, and also runs through the Camí de la Colònia. The Cova del Gamell It is a less well-known cavity than that of Water, and is often incorrectly named as "Cova del Camell", as if it were referring to the animal (Cueva del Camello), but it is not.

Next you have an index with all the points that we are going to deal with.

Route data

As we have said, it begins next to the Hermitage of Pare Pere, on the Camí de la Colònia. And it ends beyond the Cova del Gamell, at the junction with the route that goes from the firing range to the top of the It montgó. The itinerary corresponds to the blue line marked on the map, taken from the Cartographic viewer of l'Institut Cartogràfic Valencià.

We take the Camí de la Colònia and when we come to a fork, we choose the path to the left and follow the signs for "Cova del Gamell".

Distance

5154'2 meters are covered, that is, a little more than 5 kilometers.

Duration

The estimated duration is 80 minutes (one way only).

Difficulty

This route is considered to be low difficulty.

Other data

A drop of 127,37 meters is covered, between the maximum height of 220 meters and the minimum of 105 meters.

Where do we pass and what do we see

It is interesting to visit the Hermitage of Pare Pere, next to the little cave where the priest lived. The Camino de la Colonia takes us through the old Montgó agricultural colony, an "experiment" to revive the economy when the raisin industry closed its cycle in Dénia. During the tour of this route you can see beautiful views of the entire Gulf of València.

The improvement of the garbage and cleaning service seems good to me but nothing is indicated about the main problem experienced, especially these last two summers, the collection of paper containers (blue container) and packaging (yellow container) that, as indicated by written by a counseling technician, they are not being adequately cared for, plain and simple, due to lack of frequency in their removal. In the marinas area, next to the CdT, the collection frequency was less than once a week, which has produced many problems, with overflowing containers and containers on the ground for days and days.
Don't you think it's necessary to improve this frequency issue before talking about smart containers? In other words, to provide a simple solution to serious environmental conservation problems.
