The XIV blood donation marathon returns to Dénia with great gifts for donors

20 September 2022 - 15: 50

On September 28, the blood donation marathon will be held again in Dénia, which this year already celebrates its fourteenth edition. An edition that seeks to increase the number of new donors to give continuity to the important chain of solidarity.

The marathon, organized by the Dénia City Council, in collaboration with the Alicante Blood Transfusion Center and the Red Cross, will take place at the Social Center on Calle Calderón, number 4. Those interested in participating may do so during the in the morning from 09:45 a.m. to 13:30 p.m., or in the afternoon, between 16:45 p.m. and 20:30 p.m.

The Councilor for Health, Javier Scotto, has stressed the importance of being supportive in order to keep hospital reserves covered. For him, "donating blood is donating life." This year it is intended to beat the quota of donors of previous editions, especially with new additions.

As an appeal, a poster has been designed that unites the sacrifice of sport with sportsmanship and the camaraderie of sport. “The marathon is represented as a collective effort test where the participants give their best”, added Scotto.

Donor conditions and gifts

The only conditions to be able to donate are that the weight is greater than 50 kilos, that it has not been donated in the last eight weeks, not suffer from any blood-borne disease and be over 18 years of age. Donors should not come fasting to avoid fainting or other problems. No need to register, just go to the Social Center during business hours.

The collaborating companies will participate offering gifts to those who come to donate and publicizing the event to reach the maximum number of people. Among the raffled gifts we find a trip with Baleària, a batch of wine from Celler Les Freses de Jesús Pobre, a batch of small appliances from Appliances Pineda and a purchase check from the Mercat de Dénia.

The media Radio Dénia-Cadena SER and Canfali also collaborate Marina Alta and associations like the Business Cercle Marina Alta o AEHTMA (Association of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs of the Marina Alta).

express your generosity

The Dénia marathon is held within the framework of the new campaign "Plasma your generosity" of the Transfusion Center of the Valencian Community (CTCV). With this initiative, the CTCV wants to raise awareness about the importance of donating plasma. Through 22 days of disclosure and a two-minute explanatory video, they intend to increase the number of people who are encouraged to donate plasma.

The institution highlights the great lack of plasma in the Valencian Community. This is vital, among other things, for people undergoing cancer treatment with hemophilia or who suffer from serious infections. Obtaining it through blood donations is deficient; therefore, apheresis (also known as cell separation) is performed. This process is carried out with specific machinery and requires a minimum time of 40 minutes, but the patient's recovery is immediate, which makes it easier for the donation to be made every two weeks.
